Storage in Transit (SIT)
Storage in Transit (SIT) is a temporary storage solution offered by moving companies when your new home isn’t ready to receive your belongings. Instead of delivering everything immediately, your items are securely stored in a climate-controlled warehouse for a short period, then delivered once you give the go-ahead.
When It’s Used
- You’re waiting to close on a new home.
- Your new place is still under renovation.
- There’s a gap between move-out and move-in dates.
- You’re relocating long-distance and need flexible timing.
How It Works
- Your belongings are picked up on moving day and stored in a licensed, secure facility.
- The storage is typically short-term — often up to 90 days.
- Once you’re ready, the mover arranges delivery to your new address.
What You Should Know
- If you need more time, your belongings may be put into long-term storage (costs and terms may vary).
- There are climate-controlled chambers for sensitive items (antiques, artwork, electronics).
- Insurance coverage for storage time may differ from insurance coverage for transit time.
