Frequently Asked Questions

A Plus Moving is a company with 10 years of experience in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico market. We have compiled a database of important, fundamental questions that our clients have asked:

How do I know if I need a full-service move or just labor help?

If you’re not sure what level of help you need, we’ll help assess your situation and recommend what fits best (without upselling you). Full-service is ideal when you need everything, packing, loading, transporting, unloading, and even unpacking. Labor-only works best if you’ve packed yourself and just need help moving the heavy stuff.

How do I compare moving quotes fairly?

Let your relocation consultant see everything, including attics, crawl spaces, closets, and storage. They’ll assess the total weight, distance, and any packing needs. Be sure to show them all items, even those not visible or planned for disposal. The more accurate the walkthrough, the more accurate the quote.

Should I get an estimate?

Yes. You should get 3–5 estimates before any interstate move. Make sure movers physically see your items, not just quote by phone. In-person estimates are much more reliable.

How do I find a good mover?

Ask how long they’ve been in business, whether their team is hired staff or temps, and if they’re licensed and insured. Check reviews and verify their DOT number for interstate moves.

Should I take the lowest estimate?

Not necessarily. Low quotes often skip key services or hide fees. A good quote should clearly list all included services. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

What is your cancellation policy if my plans change?

Ask this during the estimate. Generally, you can cancel or change your move date up to a few days in advance without penalty. We’ll explain all the terms before booking.

Will my stuff be consolidated on a shared truck?

Yes, in some cases. Smaller moves may share truck space with other customers. That’s more cost-efficient but usually comes with a flexible delivery window rather than a fixed date.

When is the best time to move?

Summer is peak season — school’s out and weather is good, but rates are higher. Consider mid-month or off-season (fall/winter) to save money and avoid delays.

What if my new residence isn’t ready?

We can arrange secure storage near your destination. You’ll pay a storage fee and separate delivery charge. Ask whether storage is at our own facility or with a partner.

What things can I do to make my move cost less?

Purge unused items: long-distance moves are priced by weight. Fewer things, lower cost. Sell, donate, or toss what you don’t need before moving.

Do I need to inventory my stuff?

Yes. We’ll provide an inventory list and weight report, but it’s wise to keep your own. Number your boxes (e.g., 1 of 20, 2 of 20) so you can verify everything arrives.

Can movers take apart my large furniture?

Yes. We disassemble beds and basic furniture as part of your quote. More complex pieces should be discussed in advance. We don’t reassemble anything we didn’t take apart.

What if my stuff is damaged during a move?

Basic coverage is by weight (usually 60 cents per pound). For better protection, you can purchase full-value coverage that reimburses you for repair or replacement.

Can I move in a snowstorm?

Yes, but prepare well. Clear snow, salt paths, and protect your floors. We use floor runners, but it helps if access is ready. Hot drinks are a nice gesture for movers in cold weather.
