COI Movers

What is a Certificate of Insurance?

A COI is a formal document that’s issued by an insurance company as proof that a relocation company is covered under specific insurance policies.

The certificate functions as a safety guarantee and gives the tenants and building management peace of mind as it confirms that our company holds the necessary insurance, including the following:

  1. General Liability Insurance: Mainly covers damage to the building, elevator and other common areas.
  2. Workers’ compensation Insurance: Protects against liability if a mover is injured during the move.
  3. Automobile Liability Insurance: Covers any incidents involving the relocation vehicle that may occur during a move.

A COI typically contains the date of issue, expiration date of the insurance policy, name of the insurance provider, the parties insured under the policy (including the moving company), the types of insurance coverage provided and the coverage limit for each type of insurance.

So, why do you need a Certificate of Insurance for Relocation? For protection against damage, building access, verification of legitimacy and a financial safety net. For example, many residential and commercial buildings will not allow movers to execute a move without a valid COI on file.

If an elevator wall gets scratched or injuries happen, the COI will ensure the costs for damage are covered by the moving company and you will not be held personally or financially responsible.

Certificate of Insurance (COI) A Plus Moving

Our company understands how important a COI is, especially in cities where building management is strict about moving regulations. Therefore, we ensure that the Certificate of Insurance is included in our relocation prices at no extra cost which directly benefits you in several ways: Once you book your move with us, we handle the entire COI process, from start to finish, without hidden fees or making you handle the paperwork.

We make the process easy by sending you the Certificate of Insurance request form that you can forward to your building management. Once we receive their response or sample COI requirements, our dedicated insurance team prepares the document accordingly.

Thereafter, we send the final COI directly to you and even the building manager (if an email is provided) for approval purposes, before the moving day. This helps eliminate last-minute relocation delays.

Types of Moves Covered

At A Plus Moving, we offer COI coverage for both residential and commercial moves, including:

  1. Apartment & Condo Moves: We coordinate with management ahead of time, schedule for the freight elevator, protect shared areas such as hallways or lobbies using protective padding and submit COI documents as required by management.
  2. High-rise & Elevator Moves: We handle the logistics for moves involving skyscrapers and mid-rise complexes, reserve elevators and manage Certificate of Insurance submission in advance (like a week before the move) to avoid delays.
  3. Office & Retail Moves: Our company gathers specific COI requirements for both origin and destination buildings, ensures after-hours scheduling for commercial moves and uses floor runners and corner protectors throughout the building to minimize risk of damage when maneuvering items across floors.

How to Request a COI

  1. Contact the management team for the current and next destination building to inquire if they require a COI and what their requirements are. If they require the Certificate of Insurance, ask them to provide a COI sample if available, specific insurance limits and the name and email details of the building representative. This should be done before your move-out and move-in day to eliminate potential delays.
  2. Submit the information you acquire to A Plus Moving and our COI team will review everything to make sure we comply with your building’s specific needs.
  3. We will prepare a custom COI that includes the correct certificate holder details, required insurance coverage types and amounts and accurate formatting and legal language, ensuring that everything matches your building’s requests and requirements.
  4. We will send over the final COI directly to your building contact and to you for your records and also confirm that your building approves the document before the relocation day. With an approved COI on file, you are fully insured and we can thereafter proceed to relocate you seamlessly.
