Claim
A claim is an official request that you submit in the event of loss or damage to your belongings during the move, allowing you to request repair, replacement, or compensation. This is an official way to resolve any issues during the move so that you do not have to bear the losses alone.
When to File a Moving Claim
- An item arrived damaged (scratched furniture, broken dishes, etc.).
- An item is missing from your load.
- You noticed damage that became apparent over time (e.g., a crack in the frame discovered after unpacking).
How the Process Works
- Report the issue to the moving company as soon as you discover it.
- Fill out a claim form describing the item and the damage.
- The company will review the claim in accordance with your insurance valuation.
- A solution will be offered: repair, replacement, or compensation, depending on your insurance coverage.
Example:
You move from Dallas to Phoenix and later discover that your dining table has a deep scratch. You file a claim with photos. The mover reviews your insurance and arranges for either professional repair or compensation for the damage.
Pro tip:
Always check your belongings during delivery and report any issues immediately. Taking photos of expensive items before your move will simplify and speed up the claims process if something goes wrong.
